Weeknight Crockpot Pasta Sauce

Let’s face it, we’re all busy. Some days you know you’re life is going to be crazy and you plan accordingly so that you can spend less time in the kitchen and more time with the kids but some days you’re flying by the seat of your pants just praying you can get something kinda sorta healthy on the table! Today’s recipe is one of those that works for either case.
Fortunately I live close enough to work that I can scoot home for lunch if I choose to. I made it home, got this sauce prepared and into the crock pot and back to work in less than an hour.

**Disclaimer** I very rarely measure anything when I’m cooking. I eyeball things. Start with less seasoning than you think you need. You can always add more, but you can’t take it out! Get comfortable in the kitchen, trust your senses and your taste-buds. If you don’t like a spice I use, omit it and use something else! Be brave, be BOLD & take charge of your culinary adventure!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2 pounds of ground meat
    • 1 lb deer sausage
    • 1 lb ground turkey
  • Seasonings
    • S & P
    • Onion powder
    • Blackening spice-fresh from a chef
      friend of ours
    • 3 28oz cans crushed tomatoes
    • 1 jar of whatever kind of cream sauce you like *Optional*
  • Crock pot
  • A few hours

This recipe is so easy, I almost have a hard time calling it one!

  • Add meat to heavy pan and brown.
  • Season liberally with salt and pepper
  • Pour tomatoes into crockpot
  • When meat is fully cooked add to tomatoes
  • Stir in one jar of cream sauce *if you want*
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary
  • Set Crock Pot to low, cover and go on about your day!

When you finally arrive home, your house is filled with a grand aroma, and all you have to do is boil some pasta and you’re set!wpid-20151014_164226.jpg

Like almost everything I cook, you can adjust the ingredients to fit your lifestyle.
-Omit the cream sauce and you’ve got a paleo friendly sauce to smother your zoodles with.
-Leave out the meat and cream sauce and you’ve got a vegetarian friendly sauce

The possibilities really are endless and that’s what I love about cooking and creating in the kitchen. Truly anything is possible and this mama will have a house full of happy bellies!
