Well hey there y’all!
It’s after 10pm and I’ve finally crawled into bed and flipped open the laptop. I’ve been going non stop since 5am when I dragged myself out of bed for a 4 miler. After mentally exhausting day at work, I picked up the SwimSisters (I think I’m going to use that from now on) hit 2 hours of swim lessons, celebrated with ice cream, got the littlest to bed, cleaned up a bit, switched out some laundry and called it quits for the day. Doesn’t sound like much but it left me feeling ragged!
As my body wants to melt into my mattress I start thinking about why I do what I do. Why do I run myself to the point of utter exhaustion? What makes me move? Then I started thinking about how perfectly my thoughts were tangling with the #realwomenmove campaign.
#REALwomenmove is a movement created by SkirtSports and team to encourage and empower women in every phase of life to truly believe in themselves and know that they are capable of getting fit regardless of where they are in their journey. We don’t have to fall into the trap of perfectionist fitspo trends. We are all beautiful, we are all strong, and we are ALL REAL, not only do we move, but we can MOVE THE WORLD!
I used to get so caught up in the negativity of fitperfectionism- I’m pretty sure I made up that word, but it works so go with it, K! If I didn’t run every day, or eat clean at every meal I would beat myself into misery. I would convince myself I was a fitfailure and binge on nachos and ice cream, feel miserable about myself and eat more and move less and feel even more worthless. What good does that mindset do? I’ll tell you a secret- it doesn’t do a damn bit of good. It’s an ugly, vicious merry-go-round that we need to hop off of in a hurry!!!
We don’t scold, berate and abuse our children when they make a mistake do we? We teach them how to make a better choice next time. We give them tools to make better decisions. It’s time to treat ourselves with that same love and RESPECT. We are worthy of our own love and acceptance.
What is a Real woman you ask? A real woman is me! A woman that is confident, proud, and encouraging. A woman that makes her health and fitness a priority and leads by example. But a real woman also fails, falls down, cries, hurts, and makes mistakes. But in the end she learns from them. She forgives herself, and others. Then she tries again. And if she falls yet again, she will pick herself up, dust herself off, and learn…
The answer is simple. Too simple really. I want my children, my friends, my community to know and BELIEVE that you don’t have to be somebody else’s perfect to be REAL. I love myself and them enough to walk the talk.
*and we can do it in skirts*
I’d love to hear what makes you move! Leave a comment below and let’s keep the conversation moving!!!
